Embroidery floss estimator
Estimate six-strand floss from stitch count and your working strands.
How it works
This planning model assumes two diagonals plus two stitch-side lengths of travel for each strand: (2√2 + 2) × stitch size. It converts individual strands into six-strand skein equivalents. Long carries, many starts and stops, and tension change actual usage. Estimate each color separately.
A worked example
For 1,000 full crosses on 14 count with two strands and 25% allowance, the model gives approximately 3.65 m of six-strand floss. Round skeins up and test a small stitched sample.
